Quiet Autumn in the North | Preparing for Winter & Knitting – VIDEO
As I write this, the first autumn storm is sweeping outside. It makes the log joints in the corners creak, and the cabin has cooled down by three degrees since yesterday. This morning, the thermometer read 15.2°C (59.4°F) inside. Just a couple of days ago, that was the temperature outside. Now we’re all pulling on our merino wool layers just to stay warm.
There is always so much to do in the fall. It brings up some conflicting feelings in me. On the one hand, I absolutely love it. Ever since I was a child, we’ve gathered and preserved everything we could for the winter, taken care of the yard, checked the gutters and all those little things that come with living in an old farmhouse. Only then could we finally wrap ourselves in the warmth of the indoors and settle in for winter.
Now, with a little one in the house, there are days when simply taking a shower in peace feels like an accomplishment. So all of this can sometimes feel like one more thing on an already endless list. Where on earth do you find the time to pick blueberries, let alone make juice from them? As wonderful as all these things are, they do take time. And yet, somehow, we found it.
In the video, you can come along with us for some autumn chores, a walk into the blueberry woods, and a little bit of knitting, too (apparently, I’ve even managed to find time for that somewhere along the way).
I’ll show you what we do with the berries we gather and share some of the traditions we keep before winter arrives.
So wrap yourself in a wool blanket, pour yourself a cup of something warm, and settle in. I hope you enjoy these quiet autumn moments with me ❤️
